A Different Country, Thirty Minutes Away

Meis, known in Greek as Kastellorizo, is the easternmost inhabited Greek island — closer to the Turkish coast at Kaş than to any other Greek land. The crossing takes roughly half an hour by boat, and requires a valid passport and a routine passport-control stamp on arrival, since you are genuinely leaving Türkiye for Greece for the day. Few excursions on this coast involve an actual international border.

The island itself is small and immediately distinctive — a horseshoe harbour lined with pastel-coloured Ottoman-Greek houses, backed by dry cliffs and a scattering of tavernas. It is a place to walk the waterfront, look up at the hillside fortress the island takes its name from, and — for those who want it — climb the cliff steps to the Monastery of St George, before returning to Kaş by the same short crossing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a passport?

Yes — a valid passport is required, since this is a genuine crossing into Greece. Let us know your nationality when booking so we can confirm any specific entry requirements.

How long is the boat crossing?

Roughly 30 minutes each way between Kaş and Meis.

Can the crossing be rough?

It can be, particularly in windier conditions — your guide will advise on the day and reschedule if needed for comfort and safety.

Is there much to do on the island?

Meis is small — the appeal is the harbour, the fortress, the tavernas and, optionally, the walk to the monastery, rather than a long list of sights.

How much does this experience cost?

Pricing depends on group size and departure point — send us your dates and we'll confirm private pricing.
